The individual spent the entire day at the park, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July 26, according to a statement released Wednesday evening on social media. Authorities recommend that visitors who were at the park that day check that they are up-to-date on their measles vaccination and contact a doctor if they are not. Universal Studios is among the most popular theme parks in California, second only to the two Disney parks near Los Angeles. Thousands of tourists from around the world visit daily, and it welcomed 8.8 million visitors in 2024, according to the latest available figures. The announcement comes as the United States is experiencing its worst measles outbreak in 35 years. In the first seven months of the year, 2,318 confirmed cases were reported, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This is more than in 2025, a year that had already shattered records with 2,289 cases and three deaths, including two young children.
Measles causes fever, respiratory symptoms and skin rashes, and in some cases more serious complications, such as pneumonia and inflammation of the brain which can lead to serious after-effects or even death.
