Koji Chunks will be launched by the companies, a new category of own-label products, leveraging the Zur Muhlen Group's sales network and multi-billion euro business to distribute them throughout Europe, starting with Germany.

Koji Chunks are made from Nosh’s fermented mushrooms, which are GMO-free and contain no novel ingredients. They will be available in five different flavors. The product is being marketed as the world’s first meat-free alternative.

Single Ingredient Meat Substitute

Nosh CEO and Co-Founder Tim Fronzek said, “With just one main ingredient, a marinade is used, and this formulation directly addresses growing consumer demand for greater transparency and shorter, cleaner ingredients on food labels.”

Zur Muhlen had already supported Nosh after the company was founded in 2022. This led to an investment from ApolloCapital (now Check24 Impact) and Check24 Impact. Koji Chunks represents an extension of Zur Muhlen's business partnership.

Axel Knau, CEO of Zur Muhlen Group, said the investment "fits perfectly into our alternative protein strategies." It is a great product for both nutrition and taste.

Earlybird Ventures, Clear Current Capital and Good Seed Ventures are among the other firms that have financial stakes in Nosh.

Nosh has commercial backing

Fronzek said Nosh is well-equipped to accelerate the adoption of meat alternatives in the mass market by securing new funding and working with an industry partner.

Nosh fermentation can be used for other products, such as seafood, desserts, sauces, health and wellness products, and meat analogues.

Fronzek continued: “As an early-stage startup, we can’t change the world alone. We need partners who share our vision and help us produce sustainable, affordable and delicious food.”
