STENY SOLITUDE

This article is taken from the monthly magazine Sciences et Avenir n°948, dated February 2026.

"Can we check that the patient remains completely asleep, please?" A shiver runs through the operating room of the Henri-Bismuth Hepatobiliary Center at Paul-Brousse-AP-HP Hospital in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne). Dr. Daniel Pietrasz is in the middle of removing a liver tumor. The surgeon has been cutting away the growth centimeter by centimeter for about two hours, and there's no time to wake up… The anesthesiologist immediately reassures him that everything will be fine. A minor incident for this operation, whose main purpose is to test a mixed reality headset for the first time during a somewhat complex hepatectomy.
