Audacity resides in the brain, and we may have found exactly where. This will to move forward despite risks is the complete opposite of prudence, so it's perfectly normal that they don't reside in the same place. This has just been confirmed by researchers from the University of California, San Francisco, in an article published on September 15, 2026. Nature Neuroscience. By analyzing brain activity during potentially dangerous decision-making, they precisely identified the two regions that activate for boldness and caution, respectively. Reading these patterns of activity could even reveal, in advance, whether a person is about to take risks or is leaning towards playing it safe.
