Safer drug consumption rooms (SCMRs), established in France in 2016, were renamed addiction treatment centers (HSAs) in 2021. However, the pejorative label of "shooting galleries," used by their detractors at the time, has persisted. Yet these facilities play a vital role for drug users in highly precarious situations. Currently, there are only two of these HSAs in the entire country, far too few to meet the needs of homeless people suffering from addiction.
