Nearly 17 million French women are menopausal, but the data on them is dated. The Climatère project, launched by the Institute of Women's Health and Fertility at Foch Hospital, plans to follow 100,000 women for 10 years to better understand this key stage in their lives.

The last large cohort of menopausal women in France dates back to the 1990s.

In France, more than 17 million women are menopausal and more than 500,000 others enter this period of their lives each year, according to the Ministry of HealthTo address the glaring lack of epidemiological data on postmenopausal French women, the new Institute for Women's Health and Fertility at Foch Hospital (see box at the end of the article) is launching the Climatère project.

The goal: to follow 100,000 women in France for 10 years. The public health data collected will serve as a basis for better understanding this period in women's lives, both in terms of related illnesses, as well as the management of menopause and its impact on quality of life. Alexandre Vallée, head of the epidemiology and public health department at Foch Hospital, is leading this project. He explained the details to Science and Future.
