Diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, Braun-Pivet urges women to get screened

National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet has revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago during a routine checkup and is now undergoing hormone therapy, urging women to get screened.

"Today, I'm doing well," wrote Ms. Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly since June 2022, on X, relaying an excerpt from an interview published by the media outlet Mesdames on Friday. "I am on hormone therapy and I am regularly monitored by a team of caregivers who have been incredibly committed and dedicated throughout this process," she said.

"In 2022, in the series of New Year's resolutions, I said to myself: 'Come on, I'll do it now.' I made an appointment for a mammogram... and that's when my cancer was detected," she says, describing it as a "bolt of lightning in (her) life."

While breast cancer is "the leading cause of cancer death in women," "nearly one in two women do not get the screening they are entitled to every two years," the Renaissance MP for Yvelines emphasized to Mesdames. "All women must get this screening," she insisted.
