Little River Canyon, a 650-foot canyon where you can view the sparkling Little River below from a choice of seven scenic overlooks along the Canyon Rim, which is an alternate route of the Lookout Mountain Scenic Parkway. Within the park you'll find Little River Falls, hiking trails, and the Jacksonville State University Canyon Center with a gift shop and information station.

Nearby are DeSoto State Park and DeSoto Falls, with its magnificent 104-foot drop, making it one of the highest in the state. The park has an impressive network of hiking and biking trails, aerial adventures, a restaurant, lodge, rental cabins, cabins and campgrounds.

Additionally, there are rental cabins, campgrounds, and bed and breakfasts scattered throughout these mountain forests. If you prefer a hotel, you will find them in Fort Payne, Rainsville or Collinsville.

While at Lookout Mountain, you can visit the quaint village of Mentone and shop for arts and crafts at several locations. The Mentone Arts Center in the middle of town is a good place to start.

For an intimate dining experience, try Elevation Bistro or Wildflower Café, or choose from many other great restaurants in and around Fort Payne. You won't want to miss Big Mill Artisans and Antiques and Vintage 1889 Restaurant in Fort Payne. To the west are Sand Mountain and other great scenic outdoor spots, including High Falls Park, with its natural bridge, and Buck's Pocket State Park and its new ORV trail.

Throughout DeKalb County, you'll find a plethora of antique stores, gift shops, and flea markets. Visitors love to wander around the quaint and welcoming little towns. This is an easy to navigate area with very little traffic, especially in rural communities. These towns make you feel at home and comfortable, and their true southern hospitality will be immediately evident. You can spend an afternoon or day on Sand Mountain visiting Rainsville, Henagar, Fyffe, Geraldine, Ider and Sylvania. On the same outing, you can spend time at DeKalb Fishing Lake, where you can fish, camp, or hike around the beautiful 120-acre lake.

Among the biggest attractions each year are two garage sales. The US Hwy 11 Antique Alley Yard Sale takes place Thursday through Sunday following Mother's Day in May each year and stretches over 500 miles. Starting the first Thursday in August, you can explore the world's longest yard sale, which takes place along the Lookout Mountain Scenic Parkway. People come from all over the United States to this yard sale that stretches from Gadsden, Alabama, north to Hudson, Michigan, a route of nearly 650 miles.

If you're interested in history, you'll find plenty here, including downtown Fort Payne, which was developed by New Englanders who came to "blow up" the city as an industrial community. They built an opera house, which is still in use today, many magnificent Victorian era homes, and most of the buildings in the city center, which are still there for you to enjoy. You'll also find great community parks for the whole family to enjoy. One of them is the Alabama Walking Park in honor of the "Boys from Fort Payne", the legendary country music group from Alabama. Additionally, the group operates a gift shop and museum in Fort Payne.
