The ban on "puffs", cheap, flavored disposable electronic cigarettes, popular among young people in particular, was definitively approved on Thursday by the French Parliament. France will thus become the second European country, after Belgium, to ban the marketing of "puffs" on its territory, with this text prohibiting the sale and distribution of the devices in France. “pre-filled with liquid and not capable of being refilled, whether or not they have a rechargeable battery”.
“A major step forward against youth smoking”
The Senate's passage of the cross-party bill to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes is seen as "a major step forward against youth smoking" by the League against Cancer. Its president Philippe Bergerot considers in a press release that this is a "a strong signal to the tobacco industry, which is competing in inventiveness to attract new consumers. Through habit, these products, presented as harmless, lead them down the dangerous path of tobacco, which alone is responsible for 68,000 new cancers each year and 46,000 deaths from cancer.".
