September 28, 2025

This article is taken from the monthly Sciences et Avenir n°943, dated September 2025.

Seven patients treated with gene therapy for their hemophilia B more than ten years ago no longer experience the frequent bleeding and joint pain caused by their genetic disease, according to a study published in the journal New England Journal of Medicine.

A 3 million euro treatment

A follow-up study shows that the treatment, which was given as a single injection at the time, is long-lastingly effective. It is now marketed at a price of 3 million euros.
