Services, logistics, and human resources (HR) were cited as occupations where jobs are expected to decline in the near future due to artificial intelligence (AI).
On the 17th, consulting firm McKinsey recently released the results of a global survey conducted in July of last year, in which it asked 1,400 business executives around the world about the current state of generative AI use. Generative AI is AI that thinks like a human and creates natural content such as conversations and reports, and representative examples include OpenAI's ChatGPT and DeepSeak R1 models.
In the question regarding "areas expected to see a reduction of more than 3,000 employees over the next three years due to generative AI," 48,000 of all respondents chose "service operations occupations" as the highest.
Subsequently, numerous predictions of job losses due to AI were made in areas such as logistics management (47 %), HR (response rate 46 %), production (41 %) and risk management, legal affairs and compliance (37 %).
The occupations with the lowest prospects for staff reductions are service and product development (23 %) and IT (25 %).
The service sector is considered the most applicable field due to the characteristics of generative AI that can converse fluently with people, and various automation cases such as unmanned call centers and customer-customized document creation machines are attracting attention.
In this survey, 15 % of respondents predicted a large-scale reduction of more than 20 % in the total service sector workforce over the next three years.
Various use cases are being tested in the areas of logistics management and HR, such as next-generation logistics demand forecasting, delivery route optimization, interview assistance AI, and professional training chatbots. The percentage of respondents who expected a reduction of more than 20% was 10% for logistics management and 8% for HR.
71 % of all respondents answered that they were using generative AI in one or more areas of activity, more than double the figure in 2023 (33 %).
