The billions of microorganisms that inhabit the intestines have a direct beneficial effect on the immune system. They protect against pathogens and enable the body to respond more effectively to treatment.

Considering that the immune system is the defense mechanism put in place by our body's cells to react to the attack of a pathogen, it seems entirely logical that our microbiota participates in this defensive system. Indeed, we are made up of as many cells as we host bacteria, approximately 30,000 billion for each of these two entities.
