Although research on irritable bowel syndrome is less active than for IBD, knowledge is progressing slowly, and different mechanisms explaining the occurrence of symptoms are now known.

On the one hand, there are a large number of patients expressing frequent complaints. On the other hand, there are doctors who, following the consistently negative test reports, assure that"there is nothing" , that " it's not serious  " and that "It's in the head ". This is how the world of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or functional colopathy turns. The result: patients lacking listening and empathy, tossed between medical nomadism and diagnostic wandering, with serious repercussions on their quality of life. One in four patients is thus affected by a severe form.
