Former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyeong-soo announced on the 9th that he would begin a hunger strike to demand the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
Former Governor Kim stated that day, "Civil society representatives leading the impeachment struggle have begun a hunger strike to demand Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment," and "I will also begin a hunger strike with them starting tonight." Regarding the cancellation of President Yoon's arrest warrant, former Governor Kim diagnosed the current political situation as a desperate crisis in the history of democracy. This means they have decided to begin a hunger strike until President Yoon's impeachment is confirmed.
He also sharply criticized the prosecution for not appealing the court's decision to overturn the detention. Former Governor Kim said, "The prosecution suddenly stopped its practice of immediately filing appeals, and it just so happens that the person involved was the president." He added, "This is by no means a coincidence." "When the Democratic Solidarity and Anti-Rightist Coalition failed to suppress the right-wing forces, the prosecution shamelessly revealed that they were sympathizers of the rebellion," he said. He added, "We must immediately investigate Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung, who is complicit in the rebellion, and the prosecution must be completely reformed."
Former Governor Kim continued: "What we need now is overwhelming public opinion in favor of impeachment. You must do whatever it takes to bring it out." "I will return to that time and heart when I fought the dictatorship," he said. "I sincerely appeal to all citizens who believe that impeachment must be accepted. "Now is the time to become so," he added.
