South Korean automaker Hyundai has recalled two models of its electric vehicles due to concerns that a software flaw could cause the vehicle to lose power and potentially cause a crash. The two models are the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 electric vehicles, of which more than 145,000 are being recalled worldwide.

The recall notice states: “Due to a software issue in the integrated charge control unit, the 12-volt auxiliary battery may not charge as expected. A loss of motive power while driving could increase the risk of a crash resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.” The vehicles affected by this recall were built between 2021 and 2024. Customers who own one of the affected vehicles can contact their Hyundai dealer to have the faulty software updated free of charge. They can also contact Hyundai on 0800 981981.

>Kia is also recalling more than 60,000 EV6 models due to a similar issue, and in 2023, the two automakers recalled more than 92,000 vehicles due to a fire risk, such as
