Many studies have provided new insights into the development and spread of cancer tumors, as well as their response to treatment. These 10 studies are from the Human Tumor Atlas Network (HTAN), Cancer Moonshot funded by the National Institutes of Health(sm) The publication of the three-dimensional map of human tumors will take place on October 31, 2024. Nature magazines.
Several studies examine the impact of the tumor microenvironment on cancer resistance to treatment and disease spread. Three studies trace the progression of colorectal precancerous tissues to cancer, measuring multiple molecular-cellular events. The development of single-cell analysis technologies and platforms is described in several new HTAN publications. A research presentation, presented by W. Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, director of the National Cancer Institute at NIH, and Dinah Singe, PhD, deputy director for scientific strategy and development at NCI, describes the history of HTAN, its progress, and its future.
HTAN was launched in 2018. It creates maps that show the molecular characteristics of tumors and their surrounding microenvironments as they change over time. Teams of researchers from across the country use different technologies and computational approaches to analyze tumors at the single-cell level. This comprehensive, publicly available resource aims to help researchers better understand how cancer progresses, develops, and prevents it. The initiative published the first tumor atlas in 2020 or 2021.
