OPS launches a new interactive table to monitor respiratory viruses in the Americas

July 9, 2025

Washington DC, July 8, 2025 (OPS) – La Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) has launched a new interactive table To improve monitoring and analysis of respiratory virus circulation trends in the Americas, with the aim of increasing vigilance and facilitating the analysis of regional trends.

This interactive table presents virological data (from FluNet) and epidemiological data (from FluID) available through the AMart regional data base, providing an intuitive and multilingual platform to explore key indicators.

The table contains three main sections:

  • Vigilancia virológica: present the percentage of positivity and data of laboratory studies for all countries and subregions, allowing a detailed sequence of viral circulation patterns.
  • Vigilancia sindrómica: most of the data on cases reported by serious respiratory infections (IRAG) and enfermedad type influenza (ETI), together with those included in intensive care units (UCI) and dead relationships with IRAG, we provide information on the clinical presentation of the viruses respirators in circulation.
  • Profiles by country: Allow users to select any country of the Americas and see all virological and thermal surveillance data on one integrated page.

All table displays are interactive, customizable over time and are available in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese. The herramienta is updated weekly and is directed by public health professionals, health authorities and other actors involved in the surveillance of respiratory viruses.

Additionally, the table has a function that allows access to an up-to-date regional summary of the virus situation. In the epidemiological week 25 of 2025 (from 15 to 21 of June), data shows that the circulation of influenza and respiratory viral virus (SRV) is aligned with historical seasonal patterns, with high activity in the hemisphere over and below in the northern hemisphere. For SARS-CoV-2, no definite seasonality has been observed, although its circulation is low in most of the subregions, with the exception of the Caribbean, where major activity has been detected.

Country profiles offer a more detailed overview of the national situation.
