FIVP Recognition of the Link Between Exposure to Pesticides and Leukemia
In early December, the Rennes Court of Appeal dismissed the parents of a little girl who died of leukemia linked to the exposure to pesticides of her mother, a florist at the time, during her pregnancy, who were claiming compensation for the damage suffered by their daughter. Laure Marivain had been exposed to numerous herbicides since she was 20 in her profession as a florist and flower wholesaler, cleaning blue and yellow stains on plants covered in pesticides imported from abroad, which she received in large quantities.
Her daughter Emmy died of leukemia in March 2022 at the age of 11 and a half. In early April 2022, her parents contacted the Pesticide Victims Compensation Fund (FIVP). This fund is responsible in particular for compensating " children exposed to pesticides during the prenatal period " because of their parents' profession and having developed a pathology. In July 2023, they obtained recognition by the FIVP of the link between exposure to pesticides and leukemia, and the proposal of compensation of 25,000 euros to each for moral damages, in accordance with the legal scale.
According to the French Federation of Artisan Florists, this profession employs some 30,000 people in France (artisan and retail florists).
