The ability to bounce back after a negative or traumatic event affects not only the brain, but also the microbiota and its activity. An American study reveals that resilient people have better cognitive functioning and a healthier gut! They are also better able to recognize and describe their feelings.

The intestinal microbiota continues to intrigue researchers. This set of micro-organisms, including bacteria and viruses, considerably influences our health and our body in general: growth, mental health, character... Last year, we discovered the communication system between the intestinal microbiota and the brain.

Today, American researchers are revealing the importance of resilience in certain cognitive functions and its link with the intestinal microbiota. “Resilient people have a microbiota that is particularly effective in reducing inflammation and maintaining the integrity of the intestinal barrier,” summarizes Arpana Gupta, researcher at the University of California and co-author of this new study. These results were published in the journal Nature Mental Health.
