The 2024 Telethon raised nearly €97 million for research into rare genetic diseases, according to the final results of the charity marathon released Monday.

At the end of the operation, sponsored by the singer Mika on November 30 and December 1, the counter had been stopped at nearly 80 million euros in pledges.

However, the public still had the opportunity to donate later, which allowed the final sum to reach 96,553,593 euros, compared to 92.9 million euros last year, AFM-Téléthon stated in a press release.

The amount of pledges reached its record in 2006, with more than 106 million euros.

"This 2024 Telethon will remain etched in our memories because it marked a turning point in our therapeutic victories, which are increasingly numerous, including in diseases that seemed invincible," notably in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, underlined Laurence Tiennot-Herment, president of the AFM-Telethon association, quoted in the press release.

The Telethon's funds specifically target rare diseases, including 95%, which remain untreated or even undiagnosed. Among other things, they finance 40 clinical trials, currently underway or in preparation, for diseases of the blood, liver, muscle, vision, and immune system.

Beyond the research issues, the Telethon remains a unique event: its latest edition took place in nearly 15,000 municipalities and attracted 10 million viewers over the 30 hours of dedicated airtime on France Télévisions.

The 2025 Telethon will take place on December 5 and 6.
