In our species too, the hippocampus, a central double structure of the brain responsible for memory, produces new neurons throughout life, confirms a study conducted by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.

Greater proliferation in children

The proliferation of these nerve cells, probably limited to this region in the human brain, is greater in children and then stabilizes at around 700 new neurons per day.
