Han Dong-hoon: "We will block it permanently"
Park Chan-dae: "It's a pro-labor law and a pro-market, pro-business law"
The ruling and opposition parties united on the 5th. A fierce battle took place over the Yellow Envelope Law (Amendment to the Law on Trade Unions and Adjustment of Labor Relations), which was passed. the plenary session of the National Assembly led by the Democratic Party.
The ruling party has defined the yellow envelope law as an anti-market "law on promoting illegal strikes" and plans to recommend President Yoon Seok-yeol to exercise his right to request a review (veto). On the other hand, the opposition party, including the Democratic Party, believes that if the yellow envelope law is passed, it will strengthen workers' rights by effectively limiting companies' compensation claims.
Han Dong-hoon, a representative of the People's Power Party, said at the Supreme Committee meeting held this morning at the National Assembly, "This law will greatly increase the influence of the labor union in political strikes and will result in directly blocking the upward development of the Republic of Korea." "We will stop it," he said.
Park Joon-tae, the spokesperson for the venue, also made a comment that day and argued, "If the Democratic Party is sincere about former leader Lee Jae-myung's 'muksanism', it should withdraw the 'Illegal Strike Promotion Act.'"
Rep. Park said, "History will record today as the day the national economy fell into a complete crisis when the 'Illegal Strike Promotion Act' was implemented," adding, "This bill will destroy the economy and cause more suffering to the people." "This is one of the most perverse ways to make people feel bad," he said.
Prosecutor's office spokesman Park said, "There is no end in sight to the Democratic Party's double standards, which force the Yoon Seok-yeol government to pass bills that even the Moon Jae-in government ignored. This is a result of prioritizing understanding," he criticized.
However, Park Chan-dae, acting leader and top leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said that day: "The yellow envelope law is a key livelihood bill to ease the dual structure of the labor market."
He said: "The seizure bomb (of the company) is the factor that makes a normal market economy impossible, including driving workers to death," and added: "Only by respecting workers' rights will dialogue between workers and management become possible and the market economy function stably. "Therefore, the Yellow Envelope Law is a law that is pro-labor, pro-market and pro-enterprise," he argued.
At the same time, he urged: "President Yoon Seok-yeol and the People Power Party should reflect on their unconstitutional ideas of worker oppression and withdraw the nomination of Mr. Kim Moon-soo before criticizing the yellow envelope law."
The National Assembly adopted the yellow envelope law in plenary session this afternoon with 177 votes for and 2 votes against out of 179 members present.
The People's Power Party, which opposed the bill, engaged in a filibuster (unlimited debate) when the amendment was tabled on the 2nd to block the vote, but the filibuster automatically ended at midnight on the 3rd, when the extraordinary session of the National Assembly ended in July. In accordance with the National Assembly Law, the amendment was put to a vote at the first plenary session of the extraordinary session of the National Assembly in August.
The ruling party did not participate in the vote against the bill's forced passage. Among the opposition party members who participated in the vote, New Reform Party lawmakers Lee Joo-young and Lee Jun-seok voted against it.
As President Yoon's veto is likely to be exercised, the yellow envelope law is expected to go through the repeal process again, like the 21st National Assembly.
