[Today's Weather] "Be sure to wear a mask" Yellow dust across the country... "Yellow dust crisis" alert in Incheon and Chungcheong areas

March 13, 2025

On Thursday the 13th, the sky will be hazy across the country due to the influx of yellow dust and fine dust.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Korea Environment Society, daytime temperatures will exceed 15 degrees Celsius, bringing hot weather.

Namsan Tower appears hazy as seen from downtown Seoul on the 12th, when a fine dust advisory was issued.

For the time being, temperatures will be recorded 2 to 4 degrees above the annual average (minimum -4 to 4 degrees, maximum 9 to 14 degrees). The daily temperature variation will be significant, around 15 degrees, mainly in the central inland region, on the east coast of Gangwon-do, in the southern region and on Jeju Island.

The lowest temperature in the morning will range between -3 and 7 degrees, and the highest temperature during the day will range between 11 and 17 degrees.

The lowest temperatures in major areas are: Seoul 3 degrees, Incheon 3 degrees, Suwon 1 degree, Chuncheon -1 degree, Gangneung 7 degrees, Cheongju 3 degrees, Daejeon 3 degrees, Jeonju 3 degrees, Gwangju 5 degrees, Daegu 5 degrees, Busan 7 degrees, and Jeju 8 degrees.

The highest temperatures are 14 degrees in Seoul, 11 degrees in Incheon, 13 degrees in Suwon, 15 degrees in Chuncheon, 15 degrees in Gangneung, 15 degrees in Cheongju, 15 degrees in Daejeon, 16 degrees in Jeonju, 15 degrees in Gwangju, 17 degrees in Daegu, 16 degrees in Busan, and 14 degrees in Jeju.

Due to the influx of yellow dust and fine dust from abroad, the concentration of fine dust is expected to be high across the Korean Peninsula. Incheon, Sejong, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Chungcheongnam-do regions are expected to have a "very poor" concentration, and the rest of the country is expected to have a "poor" level.

The Ministry of Environment issued a "concern" level yellow dust crisis warning for Incheon, Sejong, North Chungcheong, and South Chungcheong at 5 p.m. yesterday.

The yellow dust crisis alert is divided into four levels: attention, caution, warning, and severe. "Attention" is issued when yellow dust likely to affect our country occurs, and the fine dust (PM-10) caused by yellow dust is forecast to be "very bad."

The metropolitan area and Gangwon-do region will generally have clear weather, while other regions will have mostly cloudy weather. Starting in the evening, the sky will gradually become cloudy across the country.

The expected rainfall is as follows: △Less than 5 mm in Jeju △About 1 mm in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi and the five islands of the West Sea △About 1 mm in inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon.

Until the morning, there will be areas with strong winds of around 15 m/s, mainly in Yeongdong, Gangwon Province.

From the afternoon onwards, the wind will gradually become stronger and waves will become very high in the waters off Jeju Island, the South Sea and the southern part of the West Sea.
