Just approved in the United States, a first blood test detects the amount of two biomarkers in plasma. It thus eliminates the need for a lumbar puncture, the only reliable diagnostic tool to date.

Lumipulse Test

Less invasive Unlike lumbar puncture, the Lumipulse test currently authorized in the United States measures the presence of beta-amyloid 42 and p-tau 217 proteins in the blood.

Memory tests, medical imaging, and lumbar puncture... Following the onset of cognitive impairment, several tests are required to diagnose Alzheimer's disease. After cognitive tests, medical imaging (PET scans) is necessary to observe the cerebral atrophy caused by the disease on the brain. In addition, the collection of cerebrospinal fluid, using a lumbar puncture between the vertebrae, was previously essential for diagnosis. This alone made it possible to measure the presence of specific Alzheimer's biomarkers.
