Free kits for screening STIs for 18-25 year olds

August 13, 2025

Are you between 18 and 25 years old? Since July 1, 2025, you can order and receive – discreetly and without any upfront payment – at your home, a self-test kit to screen yourself for a possible sexually transmitted infection (STI). This is obviously due to their recent resurgence (especially those with chlamydia and gonococcus) that Health Insurance has implemented this new system.

An STI is often silent

It is complementary to another advance, biological screening without prescription and without appointment, carried out in a laboratory and effective since September 1, 2024. This device allows you to request biological screening for five STIs (chlamydia, gonococcus, HIV/AIDS, syphilis and hepatitis B) from any laboratory, without going through a doctor.

This screening must be carried out if symptoms (discharge, itching, irritation, etc.) are evidently present. But as a reminder, an STI is often silent and therefore without any symptoms. You can therefore be a carrier of an STI and therefore transmit it. However, if detected early, the two main STIs (chlamydia, gonococcus) can be treated with appropriate antibiotic treatment. Hence the major interest in these two devices.

Vaginal and urinary kits

In practice, everything is very simply detailed online on the site mon-test-ist.ameli.fr, the ordering procedures and instructions for using the vaginal and urinary kits (those intended for men) being very clearly explained. However, for the moment, only the former are available, the latter should arrive during the next half of 2025.
