Physical activity is beneficial for all neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's. But for those already suffering from this condition, which affects the motor system and therefore increases the risk of falling, it is important to adapt exercise to their physical condition.
Treadmills are a good alternative to walking if the patient lacks the confidence to walk outdoors. Starting at 4,200 steps per day, they will begin to notice an improvement in motor symptoms. Another suitable discipline is Tai Chi, a low-impact activity that teaches better control of breathing and movements. This moving meditation improves gait and balance more effectively than walking.
