In the lobby, you can only see him, the aquarium and its multi-colored lights. We are a few kilometers from Madrid, in the premises of Pharmamar, a Spanish laboratory that 40 years ago chose to search the depths of the sea for anti-cancer substances. On the walls of its immaculate premises, which extend over nearly 4,000 m², there are huge photos of marine organisms and maps of the world recalling the locations of expeditions (more than 200 carried out in 35 countries in 40 years) conducted on all the seas and oceans of the globe.
Specializing in the discovery of anticancer treatments of marine origin, the structure is today a pioneer in its field and its motto best sums up its DNA: “Inspired by the sea, guided by science, motivated by patients.” It is therefore several meters deep underwater that Pharmamar divers will look for samples of marine organisms, some of which will prove to have a powerful anti-tumor action.
