Two people were taken to hospital Wednesday after a garbage bin flipped off a forklift and fell onto them at a construction site on the 100 block of Argyle Avenue, Ottawa paramedics said.

The patients, one in their 30s and the other in their 50s, were both transported to the hospital in “serious, but stable condition,” Ottawa Paramedic Service acting superintendent Nicolas Guertin said.

Paramedics responded to the incident at approximately 8:20 a.m., according to Guertin.

Paramedics could not confirm the circumstances of the event and whether the injured people were passerbys or workers on the construction site.

The provincial Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development was investigating the incident, spokesperson Janet Deline said.

“A ministry inspector has been assigned to investigate,” Deline said. “No further details are available at this time.”
