The Senators’ captain skated on Sunday before the club scored a 4-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Canadian Tire Centre.

He missed his third straight game, but coach Travis Green confirmed that Tkachuk will accompany the Senators to Columbus on Monday and didn’t rule out the possibility of him facing the Jackets at Nationwide Arena.

Tkachuk will also skate Monday morning after missing his third straight game as a result of an upper-body injury he suffered on a hit from Pittsburgh winger Ryan Graves last Sunday on the road.

“I’m not sure to be honest,” Green said when asked if Tkachuk would face the Jackets. “He skated today, and I expect him to skate tomorrow.”

Having Tkachuk return would be a good boost. If the Senators send winger Angus Crookshank back to their American Hockey League affiliate in Belleville on Monday, then there is a good chance Tkachuk will play.

Tkachuk didn’t suit up for the club’s 5-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, its 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, or its 3-0 win against the Florida Panthers on Sunday.

Missing some time may not be the worst-case scenario, though. He was already nursing a hip injury he sustained while playing for Team USA at the Four Nations, so this is an opportunity to get him as close to 100 percent as possible heading into the postseason.
